Apr 08, 2014 (newstodate): A unique cross-border cooperation in the world of IATA, four markets in the Nordic region are now teaming up to spur the implementation of e-AWB.
Taking the lead in the process are SAS Cargo in the Danish market, Air France/KLM in Norway, Finnair in Finland and Lufthansa Cargo in the Swedish market.
Participating airlines also include Korean Air, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways and Emirates, all aiming at making a unified, simultaneous step forward rather than fighting each on his own.
The airlines will set up a single process for the forwarders to deliver cargo to the cargo terminals and ground handling companies.
This process will completely eliminate the need for the printed AWBs, and the carriers thus undertake to print out the documents at stations not immediately capable of handling the electronic AWB.
In effect, the single process means that any shipment may be transported to any destination in the world based on the e-AWB.
Following on this, the process will next include Iceland and the Baltic countries from 2015.
