Apr 11, 2014 (newstodate): With an obvious abundance of resources at its disposal, EU never tires of publishing sweeping statistics and admonitions.
As one latest example comes a new offer in the form of a scoreboard on transport in the EU.
The scoreboard compares member state performance in 22 transport-related categories and highlights for most of these categories the five top and bottom performers.
The Netherlands and Germany top the scoreboard with high scores in 11 categories, followed by Sweden, the UK and Denmark.
The scoreboard can be consulted either by mode of transport or by one of the following categories: Single market (access to market, regulation), Infrastructure, Environmental impact, Safety, Transposition of EU law, Infringements of EU law, Innovation and research, and Logistics.
Looking into the category Air Transport Infrastructure, on a scale from 1 to 7 Finland comes out close to the top with a score at 6.22, Sweden scores 5,73, and Denmark 5,64.
Among the bottom-five are Slovakia at Romania at 3,36, Poland at 3,91, Hungary at 3,94, and Estonia at 4.14.
Lithuania scores 4,32, and Latvia is at 5,39.
Whatever that really means....
