Apr 24, 2014 (newstodate): The Russian Federation's new "Republic of Crimea" has reportedly signed an agreement with the Chechen carrier Grozny Avia.
Under the agreement, Grozny Avia will become the first carrier to establish Simferopol Airport as a new operational base, with plans to open flights from Simferopol to Belgorod, Kursk, Voronezh, Kazan, Volgograd, Kirov and Grozny, subsidized by the Russian Federation.
Grozny Avia currently operates a fleet comprising six Yak-42 aircraft but plans to take in new aircraft, probably Airbus A319, after failing to reach agreement with Sukhoi for acquisition of Superjet 100 aircraft.
Already on April 15, 2014, the mayors of Grozny, in Chechnya, and Simferopol signed an agreement on mutual cooperation marking the beginning of friendship and brotherhood.
