Apr 11, 2014 (newstodate): The Icelandic carrier Air Iceland is busy bringing perishables and consumer goods into Greenland.
Only on April 9, 2014, Air Iceland operated one aircraft into Kulusuk, on Greenland's east coast, lifting five tonnes of cargo, followed by more operations the next day carrying another two tonnes.
In 2013, the carrier transported about 800 tonnes of cargo on its fleet of five Fokker F50 and two Bombardier Dash 8-200 aircraft that can be reconfigured to take cabin cargo containers.
-So far we are not operating all-cargo aircraft, but we are always open to new opportunities. Air Iceland's Board is also considering the airline's future fleet plans as the Fokker F50 is of course to have a successor at some point in time, being out of production for quite some time already. However, no decisions on these issues have been reached yet, says Vigfus Vigfusson, Air Iceland Cargo manager.
Air Iceland is part of the the Icelandair Group and works in cooperation with Icelandair Cargo.
