Apr 03, 2014 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI carrier Alpha Express Airlines has now taken in its first Airbus A320 aircraft.
-The aircraft is contracted for charter operations during this summer schedule with this aircraft, leased for two years from BBAM. Beyond the summer program, the aircraft will be made available for ACMI customers, says Rolands Ramins, Alpha Express Airlines Managing Director.
-We are actually ready to add a second Airbus A320 aircraft, but there are simply no aircraft available in the market. We are looking around and would be ready to move once the opportunity arises, but it seems to be very difficult for both ACMI and regular carriers.
Alpha Express Airlines was registered in 2012 and took delivery of its first aircraft in 2013 - an ex-Georgian Star International Airbus A300F4-200 freighter that was stationed in Sharjah.
But after a brief period, the carrier pulled out from the freighter market, seeing more business prospects in the charter and ACMI segments for passenger aircraft.
The freighter business remains, however, a strategy to be realized at a later stage, probably with ATR aircraft.
