Mar 10, 2014 (newstodate): Opening up for cargo business less than one year ago, the Norwegian carrier Norwegian is seeing good results, with volumes rising.
-We are especially keen to grow the cargo business on our long-haul flights served with Boeing 787 aircraft that lift 15 tonnes of cargo with a full passenger load, says Trine Nygaard, Norwegian Cargo Sales and Security Manager.
-The Asian traffic between Bangkok and Scandinavia is a main focus, and we are seeing full loads on most flights, which is also the case with loads on flights between Europe and USA while we are noting an imbalance here in favor of the westward traffic.
-We are of course eager to repair this imbalance together with our US cargo GSSA, Heavyweight Air Express. We are encouraged by the fact that long-term contracts with customers are building up alongside the ad-hoc assignments, so the development is steady. And the addition this year of new routes between Scandinavia and the USA as well as the new route to be opened between London and New York will add further momentum to our growth.
-On the short and medium haul traffic the situation is of course different as we operate with short turn-around times while capacity is limited to about 100 kg on most flights. We are, however, opening still more destinations for cargo operations including also flights to Iceland.
-As for inter-line agreements with other carriers, we are still in negotiations while no agreements have been concluded yet, and we are still offering only general cargo, with no product segmentation, says Ms Nygaard.
Worldwide GSA has been contracted to provide cargo GSSA services in the Thai market, Kales Airline Services serves as Norwegian's cargo GSSA in Scandinavia and Spain, Wexco serves as the GSA in the UK, and Aviation Plus is serving the markets in Holland and France.
