Mar 03, 2014 (newstodate): Russia's Talagi Airport serving Archangelsk has selected Swissport's Russian JV as a new provider of ground handling.
Swissport Russia will start operations at the airport from the start of this year's summer season, but is already involved in staff training and deployment of new ground handling equipment to serve the traffic.
Talagi Airport in Russia's Northwest is the region's 3rd largest, with Nordavia as home carrier and also served by Spanish carrier AirEuropa.
In 2013, the airport with one 2,500m runway grew its passenger volumes to 813,000 passengers, an increase by 16.5 percent, y-o-y.
A new passenger terminal is currently under construction and the airport is eying an increasing role in the region's international air traffic.
Swissport Russia was set up in May 2013 as a JV between Swissport and the Vnukovo-based handling company "Servis" to provide handling services.
The joint-venture with the Russian partner marked a first step for Swissport in expanding further into the Russian airport handling market.
