Mar 25, 2014 (newstodate): Air cargo volumes are rising steeply in 2014 at Poland's Katowice Airport.
In January, cargo volumes were up by 63 percent percent, y-o-y, to 1,294 tonnes, and in February volumes rose again by 93 percent to 1,443 tonnes.
Air traffic at the airport is strongly dominated by WIZZ Air, Ryanair and charter operators that do not provide cargo uplift capacity, while traffic by legacy carrier including Lufthansa, SAS and LOT is provided with smaller regional jet aircraft with limited cargo space.
The bulk of the cargo at Katowice Airport is thus provided by ad-hoc cargo charter operations.
