Mar 10, 2014 (newstodate): Despite an early Chinese New Year, Finnair Cargo has seen its volumes rising significantly during the first two months of this year.
A total of 10,499 tonnes of cargo was carried in February 2014, an increase by 8.2 percent, y-o-y, taking this year's total to 21,772 tonnes, up 9.8 percent.
The increase is driven by cargo on freighter flights contributing 2,662 tonnes, up 50.2 percent in February, and 5,726 tonnes during January-February, increasing 77.4 percent.
The volumes carried on the airline's passenger flights were however down 0.4 percent in January to 7,821 tonnes, and down 2.7 percent to 16,003 tonnes during January-February 2014.
The crucial Asian volumes on the passenger flights dropped 1.9 percent in January to 5,437 tonnes, and to 11,115 tonnes in January-February, down also 3.6 percent.
Finnair Cargo's North Atlantic volumes were alone in growing by 25.8 percent 676 tonnes in January and by 7.6 percent to 12,091 tonnes in January-February.
