Mar 18, 2014 (newstodate): As several other European carriers, Slovenia's national carrier Adria Airways is holding its breath, awaiting the outcome of the ongoing investigation by the EU Commission.
In November 2012, the EU Commission opened an investigation of several state aid interventions between 2007 and 2011 including four capital injections amounting to around 85.5 million euro.
Adria Airways hopes for a conclusion to the investigation in May 2014, allowing the carrier to proceed in its efforts to pursue a privatization, and sources claim that several parties have shown interest in participating in the process.
In the meantime, Adria Airways is seeking to attract more revenue by squeezing in more seats in its fleet of Airbus A319 and CRJ900 aircraft and turning towards a hybrid business model including no-frills and payment for all extras on the flights.
