Mar 25, 2014 (newstodate): Norway is dreaming of new intercontinental flights at northern airports.
Avinor, managing 46 of the country's airports, has presented a new ambitious plan for a thorough upgrading of its regional airports.
The plan calls for remote control of the smaller airports' ATC and other initiatives to enhance the efficiency of the air services at the country's northern airports that are currently heavily subsidized by the state.
Avinor plans on the background of expectations for even more activities in the oil and gas industries as well as increasing tourism, coupled with a ten percent increase in the population over the planning period.
One focus is on possible intercontinental traffic into Bodo and Tromso, specifically aiming at North American flight connections facilitated by new runway infrastructures.
The plan will be presented in its entirety on April 1, 2014.
