Mar 26, 014 (newstodate): The US carrier under formation, Baltia Air Lines again claims to be closer than ever to launch of services.
The carrier claims that its single Boeing 747-200 aircraft will be transferred to New York JFK in May this year pending a first flight later this year.
The carrier has already completed recruiting and training of cockpit and cabin crews and is now close to obtaining the final approval by the FAA.
In February 2009, DOT approved the airline's application for launching services between New York and St Petersburg, Russia, and further down the line are plans for routes from New York to Moscow, Kiev, Minsk, and Riga.
The project was actually first heard of in 1989, in November 2009 it reportedly acquired its first aircraft, an aging ex-TAP Boeing 747-200, also in 2009 the carrier received its Final Order from the United States Department of Transportation, its Frequency Allocation, FAA departure and arrival slots at JFK, and its IATA Code.
In April 2010, Baltia Air Lines contracted Cargo Terminal Pulkovo to provide handling of import and export cargo and mail, ramp services, and shipping document processing.
