Mar 06, 2014 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic has announced the opening of flights in 2014 to a new destination - Bucharest in Romania.
Starting from June 3, 2014, the carrier will offer four weekly rotations on the new route between Riga and Bucharest to be operated with Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
The carrier is also currently overseeing its existing route network to identify routes with demands below critical levels, aiming at freeing aircraft capacity to launch new routes such as the latest addition to the network.
The Romanian carrier Tarom earlier served the route between Bucharest and Riga starting from March 28, 2010, with Boeing 737-400 aircraft but pulled out again after only one year, citing low demand in the market.
airBaltic is also still under EU investigation into state loans in support of its restructuring process which also limits the carrier's ability to increase its total production.
