Mar 07, 2014 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI carrier Smartlynx is reportedly setting up a new European base.
The carrier is thus now recruiting fresh staff to be based at Brussels, presumably as a step towards setting up traffic from this airport by summer 2014.
Currently operating a fleet comprising nine Airbus A320 aircraft, SmartLynx went through a management buy-out in 2012 when the Icelandair Group sold its 100 percent of the stake in the carrier that is managed by Omar Benediktsson as CEO.
In 2012, SmartLynx also set up a subsidiary in Estonia, obtaining an Estonian AOC and basing one Airbus aircraft at Tallinn Airport for charter and ACMI operations.
