Mar 20, 2014 (newstodate): The Gulf-based carriers are expanding their flight offerings to Russia significantly this summer.
Starting from June 1, 2014, Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways will add a daily rotation on its route to Moscow, thus going up to 14 weekly flights against the current seven rotations.
On top of that, the carrier says will add even a third daily rotation from October 1, 2014, totaling 21 weekly flights by that time.
Etihad launched its first flight on the route between Abu Dhabi and Moscow Domodedovo Airport on December 1, 2008, with five weekly rotations.
Another carrier from the Emirates to intensify its grip on the Russian market is Dubai's low-cost carrier flyDubai announcing plans to start services from September this year, in direct competition to another Dubai carrier, Emirates, that is already serving the route with twice-daily Airbus A380 rotations and has been online at Moscow Domodedovo Airport since July, 2003.
In October 2010, flydubai first launched services from Dubai to Yekaterinburg and Samara, adding Ufa and Kazan from September 2011.
