Mar 06, 2014 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo is fighting hard to promote the implementation of e-freight, notably the e-AWB in the Finnish market - but it remains an up-hill struggle..
-To be quite honest, the current proportion of e-AWBs on our traffic is roughly around one percent only, says Juha Jrvinen, Finnair Cargo Mng Dir.
-Our target for 2014 is to grow this to 20 percent, but it is certainly not an easy task. It is obviously an immediate benefit for the airline to grow the proportion of e-AWBs as this will reflect in lower costs per shipment as well as higher quality of data. It is admittedly less obvious to the freight forwarders who will of course share the value of better data transmission with less or even zero errors - but will it show on their bottom lines in the short term?
-The slow response from most freighter forwarders is therefore our main challenge but we are certainly to invest in another major campaign in 2014 to provide a new boost to e-freight and e-AWBs that are certainly prime targets for IATA as well.
-On our side, we are continuously building up the e-freight capability on our stations and will complete this project at about 40 percent of all on-line stations in 2014, says Mr Jrvinen.
Driving the e-freight process at Finnair Cargo is Petteri Helen, Finnair Cargo Manager E-solutions, Global Mail and Commercial Partners.
