Mar 14, 2014 (newstodate): The Swiss carrier Darwin Airlines, now renamed Etihad Regional, is to take delivery of a fleet of new ATR aircraft.
The carrier has just taken in its first of four ATR 72-500 turboprop aircraft on a lease contract with the Danish leasing firm Nordic Aviation Capital.
All four aircraft are slated for delivery during March-June 2014.
Now operating under a strategy to build the Etihad Regional-concept into comprising a number of smaller regional carriers forming networks to feed traffic to and from small regional markets into Etihad's network, Etihad Regional is currently operating a fleet of eight SAAB 2000 aircraft.
In the fleet now is also one ATR 42-500 aircraft wet-leased to the carrier by the Danish carrier DAT to temporarily cover up for the recent loss of one SAAB 2000 aircraft during an incident.
