Mar 13, 2014 (newstodate): The turmoil around Ukraine is affecting also the country's civil aviation.
As one result of the political uncertainty, the signing of an open skies agreement between EU and Ukraine, slated to take place on March 14, 2014, has been postponed indefinitely.
One major stumbling block is the uncertain future of Crimea which makes it impossible to define exactly the notion of "territory" of Ukraine.
At the same time, the EU Commission has stated that the process of signing the protocols on open skies between the two territories will be resumed at fast speed once the prevailing uncertainties have been removed.
The negotiations between EU and Ukraine on this issue were started by the end of 2007 and were now to be finally concluded.
