Mar 14, 2014 (newstodate): Under its new ownership, the Icelandic cargo ACMI carrier Bluebird Cargo is operating as before, while work on a new strategy is in the process.
-As a first step, we are currently assessing the carrier's existing business performance to identify and rectify issues that need to be straightened out after a prolonged period without active ownership while the carrier was placed with two Icelandic banks for sale since February 2011 by its former owner, the Icelandair Group, says Steinn Logi Bjornsson, Bluebird Cargo Chairman of the Board.
-Once this internal turn-around and auditing process has been concluded, we will be able to take the next step which is to set out a strategy for Bluebird Cargo's future development and expansion. I expect the current first phase to be completed in around one month from now.
-In the meantime Bluebird Cargo is doing well, with a high rate of utilization of our freighters in the short and medium term, boding well for its continued development, says Mr Bjornsson.
Bluebird Cargo is now owned by BB Holding, a 50/50 enterprise between the investment group Haru Holding and Steinn Logi Bjornsson, formerly serving as Icelandair SVP Marketing & Sales.
Managed by Skuli Skulasson as managing director, Bluebird Cargo operates a fleet comprising five Boeing 737-300F and one Boeing 737-400F.
