Feb 06, 2014 (newstodate): Ukraine and EU are close to putting the final signatures to a new open skies agreement between the two parties.
Expectations are that the final agreement on a common aviation area will be inked in Brussels on March 14, 2014.
With the agreement in place, carriers registered in Ukraine and in a EU member country will gain free access to set up routes between any points in the countries involved, and also all limitations on capacity and frequencies will be removed.
The new agreement will replace the existing bilateral agreements between Ukraine and EU member states.
The process towards this end goal started on September 27, 2005 when he EU Commission proposed to open negotiations with Ukraine to develop a common aviation area.
