Feb 13, 2014 (newstodate): Norwegian has again placed an order for delivery of further Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
This time the carrier has signed up for four Boeing 787-900 aircraft on a leasing contract with IFLC, and the new aircraft will arrive for service in 2017 and 2018.
Norwegian currently has three 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft in its fleet, with an additional five on order. The company also has two 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on order for delivery in the first quarter of 2016.
In total, Norwegian has ordered a fleet of 14 long-haul aircraft, of which four will enter service in 2014, one in 2014, two in 2016, two in 2017, and two in 2018.
Also in Scandinavia, Norwegian is competing against SAS and will soon have more long-haul aircraft in its fleet, compared to SAS' seven Airbus A340 and four Airbus A330 to be gradually replaced by eight Airbus A350-900 ordered for delivery from 2018.
Another important piece of news around Norwegian is that it has now obtained the operating license and AOC for Norwegian Air International, based in Ireland and replacing Norway as the base for Norwegian's long-haul activities.
