Feb 12, 2014 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo is satisfied with its new agreement with Russia over Siberian overflight rights.
In return for Germany's accept of 5th freedom rights for the Russian carrier AirBridgeCargo to operate three weekly freighter flights between Frankfurt and US destinations, Lufthansa Cargo has gained an extended quota of flights over Russian territory between Europe and East Asia, and AeroLogic has acquired additional frequencies on a charter basis.
Thus, Lufthansa Cargo can now operate 30 roundtrips on a scheduled basis over Siberia, compared to the approximately 20 allowed until today.
So far, AeroLogic has only held short term-based rights to fly over Siberia, but this has now been changed into long term rights.
In addition to the currently used frequencies for AeroLogic, the carrier has also gained approval for seven additional frequencies on charter basis.
-The agreement is highly significant for us, as it will allow both our airline and AeroLogic the opportunity to conduct all of our required Asian flights with legal certainty and, where necessary, even without any stopovers, says Michael Gontgens, Lufthansa Cargo Head of PR & Internal Communications.
