Feb 17, 2014 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI cargo carrier, Alpha Express Airlines may not have given up its original taste for air cargo entirely...
Alpha Express Airlines was registered in Latvia in 2012, and after landing its AOC the carrier took delivery of its first aircraft - an ex-Georgian Star International Airbus A300F4-200 freighter.
-After a comprehensive study of the market, we however realized that the air cargo industry is highly risky, and we saw no potential in continuing in the freighter business, Rolands Ramins, Alpha Express Airlines Managing Director, told newstodate in November 2013.
The carrier's plans are focusing on passenger transportation, awaiting the delayed delivery of one Airbus A320 aircraft this spring, with plans for adding one more similar aircraft by summer 2014.
But now Alpha Express Airlines may be mulling a possible return to the air cargo market as well, as indicated by industry sources that claim the carrier may be in the process of taking in one ATR 72 freighter on a lease agreement.
-Actually, taking over an ATR 72 is not in the plan currently, but it may be considered later this year. As of now, there is nothing concrete in this, says Mr Ramins.
