Feb 13, 2014 (newstodate): Kazakhstan is aiming at increasing its role in the air cargo business.
A new cargo terminal complex is thus under construction in the country's Taraz Airport, in the country's southern region adjoining China, scheduled to be commissioned in 2014.
Behind the project is SCAT Airlines that plans to set up a new cargo subsidiary in addition to its current passenger company that operates a fleet comprising 29 aircraft including six Boeing 737 aircraft, one Boeing 757-200 and 17 ex-Soviet passenger aircraft.
SCAT Airlines is, however, on the EU Black list, barring it from operations into EU markets.
