Feb 05, 2014 (newstodate): WOW Air has decided to cancel its plans for Transatlantic flights from this summer.
Plans were to launch flights from Iceland to two US destinations, with Boston first on the list, from this summer schedule - but the current row over airport slots at Keflavik has caused the carrier to suspend the opening of the new routes.
With this decision, WOW Air is also to suspend the planned flights on a new route to Stockholm by June 2, 2014, as the aircraft fleet will not grow as planned.
The carrier had applied for four slots at Keflavik Airport - two in the morning and two in the late afternoon.
Icelandair will have 150 arrivals and departures on routes to 11 US destinations during the summer schedule, roughly at the same time as planned by WOW Air.
In November 2013, Iceland's competition authority ruled that Isavia should allocate four slots to WOW Air, but this ruling was brought by Isavia and Icelandair to the Competition Appeals Committee, which has suspended the issue pending the Committee's deliberations.
