Feb 26, 2014 (newstodate): 2013 was indeed a tough year, but we managed, says an Estonian cargo GSSA provider.
-Competition was certainly rough, with everyone fighting for the best bargain and the cheapest solutions - and the airlines certainly also did not restrain themselves, says Maanus Matlik, Air Proxy managing director.
-In this competitive environment, the war is all about rates, and as a GSSA we are of course remunerated only by a commission on the actual rate. So revenues have been down in 2013.
-Even so, we did manage fairly well and have no complaints. While we have not added new airlines in 2013, we have maintained our airline customer portfolio comprising Lufthansa Cargo, SAS Cargo, Coyne Airways and Singapore Airlines Cargo.
-As for SIA Cargo, actual volumes are of course limited. The carrier is competing head-on against Finnair that is strong on many Asian routes notably in China and Japan, but still SIA Cargo offers trucking to main-deck capacity out of Copenhagen Airport and is also strong in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific where Lufthansa Cargo is less present.
-Besides, SIA Cargo's levels of quality is also much appreciated in the Estonian market, securing an small, but important niche that certainly still has much potential for development, says Mr Matlik.
