Feb 14, 2014 (newstodate): A fresh survey names Frankfurt the #1 destination from Estonia's Tallinn Airport.
Some 12 percent of all passengers at the airport embark for flights to Frankfurt - and the national carrier Estonian Air generates close to 30 percent of all passengers at the airport.
Yet Estonian Air does not operate flights to any airport in Germany under its current strictly tailored route system.
-We are keenly aware that Germany is important for Estonian travelers and businessmen, but under the current conditions we are not able to add flights to Frankfurt or other German destinations, says Jan Palmer, Estonian Air CEO.
-As we are now under scrutiny by the EU Commission concerning the legality of state loans to support our restructuring program, we are not allowed to increase the volume of our available seat kilometers, ASK, prohibiting us from adding new destinations unless we cut in frequencies or destinations currently offered, says Mr Palmer.
Instead, Lufthansa is seeing success with its Estonian service comprising 14 weekly rotations on the route between Tallinn and Frankfurt.
