Feb 07, 2014 (newstodate): A new master plan needs to be designed to meet the needs of developing Croatia's Zadar Airport.
The existing plans from 2004 build on the assumption of reaching 300,000 passengers annually by 2015 - but actual passenger volumes in 2013 already reached 472,000 passengers, not least thanks to the traffic generated by low-cost carriers including notably Ryanair.
A new master plan is thus to be worked out rapidly to meet deadlines for obtaining co-financing from EU.
Already to be started are projects for a new apron lighting system and resurfacing of the apron and taxiways.
Since April 2013, Zadar Airport is a Ryanair base with one Boeing 737-800, and Ryanair now serves 16 European destinations in Germany, Ireland, UK, France, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway with flights to Zadar Airport.
