Dec 19, 2014 (newstodate): To look for strong positive growth in Sweden's airfreight volumes in 2014, go south - to Malmo Airport.
During the first 11 months of this year the airport has seen its volumes up by a hefty 13.8 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 23,619 tonnes.
The increase is due to the freighter traffic by the Volga-Dnepr subsidiary Atran's weekly Boeing 737-400F freighter flight since January 9, 2014, as well as ABC Airlines' weekly call at Malmo Sturup Airport as an en-route stop on the route between Amsterdam and Moscow with Boeing 747-8F freighter from April 2014.
In sharp contrast to this, Gothenburg Airport has seen volumes down by 21.1 percent, y-o-y, to 55,547 tonnes due to the shortfall of cargo by Emirates SkyCargo from July 1, 2014, as the carrier moved away from the airport, consolidating instead all freighter operations through Scandinavia at Copenhagen Airport, in Denmark.
Finally, Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport grew its cargo volumes by 7.4 percent, y-o-y, during the 11 months, to 127,225 tonnes.
In total, cargo volumes through these three airports were thus down 1.5 percent, y-o-y, to 206,390 tonnes during January-November 2014.
