Dec 11, 2014 (newstodate): Set up in April 2014, Small Planet Group is now expanding with a new carrier to be based in Thailand.
The Group is to acquire an AOC in Thailand by spring 2015, allowing it to set up Small Planet Thailand alongside its Lithuanian carrier Small Planet Airlines, in the air since 2007, and Small Planet Airlines Poland that was added in 2009.
Starting from Autumn 2015, Small Airlines Thailand will start operations with two Airbus A320 aircraft based at Bangkok offering leisure flights to carry tourists from China and South Korea to Bangkok for Asian tour operators.
-Last winter, we successfully operated flights to Bhutan, and this winter two of our aircraft are carrying passengers to Cambodia. Now I am pleased to announce that Small Planet Airlines will establish a leisure airline in Thailand in line with our strategy to balance the seasonality of leisure flights in Europe, says Vytautas Kaikaris, Small Planet Airlines CEO.
Small Planet Airlines plans to gradually increase the fleet of Small Planet Thailand to six aircraft in the winter season, aiming at generating about 30 percent of its turnover in Asia.
Small Planet Airlines now operates 11 aircraft in the markets of the Great Britain, Poland, Lithuania and Italy, but as reported by newstodate yesterday the carrier will add a further four units for the 2015 operations, growing the fleet to 15 aircraft with one unit to serve as back-up capacity.
