Dec 16, 2014 (newstodate): Russia's Volga-Dnepr Group has contracted Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services to convert one passenger Boeing 737-400 aircraft into freighter.
This is Volga-Dnepr's first order with Boeing Shanghai, and the aircraft has already been placed with Boeing for the conversion planned to be completed by Q1, 2015.
Boeing Shanghai has already performed five Boeing 737 cargo conversions for two carriers, but this order by Volga-Dnepr Group marks the company's first conversion order from the Russia/CIS region.
When commissioned, the converted freighter will be placed with the Volga-Dnepr Group's subsidiary Atran Airlines, acquired in October 2011 to provide the Group with capability to feed and distribute airfreight on the domestic network connected to the larger freighter hubs, while also expanding into the international markets.
