Dec 15, 2014 (newstodate): Russian has bestowed "open skies" rights on its third international airport - Kaliningrad Khabrovo Airport.
Starting from Summer 2015, all restrictions on international flights by foreign airlines will be lifted, including the granting of 5th freedom rights that give airlines the right to fly between two foreign countries, in this case via Kaliningrad, on a route originating or ending in one's own country.
Through these decisions, Russian hopes are to boost the importance and use of Kaliningrad as an attractive transfer point on new international routes by foreign carriers.
