Dec 17, 2014 (newstodate): Finnair is to conduct a sale-lease back transaction involving three Embraer E190 aircraft currently in the fleet of flyBe Finland.
An MoU has been signed with GOAL German Operating Aircraft Leasing, and when completed the aircraft will be placed with flyBe Finland.
At the same time Finnair has earlier announced the termination of its JV with flyBe, as Flybe has agreed to sell its 60 percent stake in Flybe Nordic to a potential new majority shareholder or to Finnair for the price of one euro.
Flybe Nordic owns fully the Finnish subsidiary Flybe Finland, which is operating Finnair's regional flights with a total of 12 Finnair-owned E190 aircraft, three of which are thus soon to shift owner.
It thus remains to be seen if Finnair will go further along the road towards divesting of its E190 aircraft ahead of an eventual decision on the future of flyBe Finland after the abrogation of the JV as Flybe exits by the end of 2014.
The proceeds from the transaction will be used to finance Finnair's fleet investments in the coming years including the 19 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft on orders, with deliveries to start in 2015.
