Dec 02, 2014 (newstodate): Now in its 30th year of operation in the Russian market, DHL Express has announced the expansion and renovation of its prime gateway at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport.
To be commissioned by Q1, 2015, the extension of warehousing and processing area, where the new state-of-the-art sorting system will be installed, will increase the gateway capacity by more than 150 percent.
With the new expansion, the overall spacing of the processing area will increase from around 3,200 to more than 7,500 sq m.
As a part of the renovation, a new automatic sorting system will be installed, which includes cutting-edge Cargoscan weighing equipment.
As the result, the capacity of the gateway will increase from 1,650 to 4,400 shipments per hour.
DHL Express now operates logistics centers, warehouses and offices in eight Russian cities serving hubs and offices in 500 Russian destinations, including the opening of its second 3,700 sq m logistics center in St Petersburg in 2013.
According to an analysis in 2013 by the US company Discovery Research Group, DHL holds 40 percent of the Russian market, followed by UPS with 11.7 percent, and TNT with 10.3 percent.
