Dec 16, 2014 (newstodate): The Danish Charter and ACMI carrier DAT is continuing its build-up of an Airbus A320 Family fleet.
Taking in its first A320-200 aircraft in June 2014 only, the second aircraft joined this autumn as well as a third aircraft decommissioned for part-out use.
-We have now concluded the acquisition of a third Airbus A320-200 aircraft stored for a brief period in California after serving with a Chilean carrier, says Jesper Rungholm, DAT CEO and co-owner.
-After this we are eying one or two more, both serving with European carriers and living up to our strict standards. These aircraft are larger A321 aircraft that will be deployed either to charter traffic or to ACMI customers.
-There is really an abundance of A320 Family aircraft with low production numbers in the market now at reasonable residual value, but it is essential for us to select aircraft with engine types similar to those already in the fleet, in order to streamline maintenance programs.
-To sum up, DAT will have four or five A320 Family aircraft in the air by the start of the Summer 2015 schedules. All aircraft are already backed up by signed contracts with customers, so we are looking forward rather confidently, says Mr Rungholm.
In the fleet is also one MD-83 aircraft that will remain in service as long as it meets coming EU requirements and continuous upgrading is still economically viable.
