Dec 18, 2014 (newstodate): Immediately ahead of the busy Christmas traffic peaks, the Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways has one of three Airbus A319 aircraft on the ground.
-During a routine inspection of the leased aircraft some corrosion was found on the wings, and according to safety regulations the aircraft will be prohibited from flying until repair works have been completed. This will mean an AOG situation probably until the end of January 2015 as far as we know today, says Jorgen Holme, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-Our customers have therefore been informed of some changes in the schedules for flights to and from the Faroe Islands during Christmas and New Year, but we have secured extra back-up capacity through chartering of aircraft for a few rotations. We therefore do not foresee major inconveniences during the coming period, says Mr Holme.
After retreating from its former strategy including engagement in the international charter operators and the ACMI market, Atlantic Airways will phase out one of its three Airbus A319 aircraft, one of which is owned while the two other aircraft are operated on lease contracts.
