Dec 09, 2014 (newstodate): Russia's Bratsk Airport, in the Irkutsk region, may have a future as an inter-modal cargo hub connecting air, rail and road transportation.
The airport is now targeted for a major redevelopment program covering 2015-16, and works will include resurfacing of the 3,160 m runway, new lighting systems, new apron areas and aircraft parking stands.
Originally serving as an air force base, the airport is now purely serving civil aviation handling some 108,000 passenger in 2013.
The airport serves regional passenger flights but will seek air cargo business between the Russia and markets in South-east Asia.
