Dec 10, 2014 (newstodate): Air France/KLM Cargo is to boost its promotion of express and special air cargo offerings.
-The bulk of our cargo from Scandinavia is trucked into our hubs at Amsterdam and Paris. But there is still cargo capacity on the narrow-body aircraft to support our efforts to boost express, special and pharma cargo shipments that require air transportation, says Soeren Roerstroem, Air France/KLM Cargo commercial manager Denmark and Norway, based at Copenhagen Airport.
-We are to add further stress on these cargo segments, also benefiting from the implementation of new va-Q-tec containers that add flexibility as they can be used for even smaller temperature-sensitive shipments, complementing the large Envirotainer containers.
-Only two weeks ago we started out from Copenhagen with the new va-Q-tec container with DSV as our first customer, and we expect this new equipment to open up for significant growth from 2015.
-Needless to say, yields from these special cargo operations are significantly higher than in the general cargo market where rates are now depressed to a level where no-one, airlines and forwarders included, are able to make a sustainable business.
-Seeing new possibilities in the market, we intend to grow further in these segments in the coming three years, and new initiatives are in the pipeline, says Mr Roerstroem.
