Nov 03, 2014 (newstodate): The Thule Air Force Base at Qaanaaq, housing the US Air Force, will have a new contractor after years with the Danish-Greenlandic company Greenland Contractors.
Following a tender process, Greenland Contractors will be replaced with the US-owned company Vectrus's Danish subsidiary Exelis Services from September 2015 till September 2022.
According to an international agreement, only Danish and Greenlandic companies may bid on contracts for operating the polar base.
Vectrus is offering a range of services to US government institutions and installations around the world, working through Exelis subsidiaries in the countries involved.
The services now to be taken over by the Exelis company include civil engineering, airfield and water port operations, fuels management, transportation, non-secure communications, environmental management, food service, medical/public health, supply, recreation and community services.
Besides its military functions, the Thule AFB also provides the region with critical aviation services as well as SAR.
