Nov 28, 2014 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport has scored another first in the region by having now implemented a fuel hydrant system.
With the new system, financed and operated by the private company Rixjet Riga as the airport's third provider of jet fuel, aircraft can now be fueled directly at the parking stands without requiring services by fueling vehicles, also easing the congestion around aircraft at the gates.
-This new fueling system is a main asset in our efforts to attract passenger and cargo carriers to Riga Airport, facilitating shorter turn-around times and ample provision of fuel for even the largest aircraft types. With this system, fueling is not an issue, says Arturs Kokars, Riga Airport Director of Strategic Development.
-Besides served the airlines with regular traffic at Riga Airport, the fuel hydrant may also add another feature to our efforts for promoting the airport as an efficient en-route station for airlines flying on intercontinental routes, says Mr Kokars.
Rixjet is one of three fuel providers at the airport, besides Gulfstream Oil and Statoil Latvija.
