Nov 04, 2014 (newstodate): Qatar Airways Cargo is now online at Norway's Stavanger Airport, with first flight on November 3, 2014.
The new route now operated once weekly with an Airbus A330-200F is flying in from Brussels on its return trip to Doha via Stavanger Airport.
The route is in addition to the twice-weekly Qatar Airways Cargo freighter at Oslo Gardermoen Airport that is purely dedicated to serving the country's booming seafood exports.
The route at Stavanger is driven primarily by the oil and gas industries in Norway, but seafood is also contributing significantly to the flight.
On its first call, the Airbus freighter thus carried an estimated 18 tonnes of seafood to and beyond Doha
After Qatar Airways Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo is also to set up freighter flights at Stavanger Airport flying in from Houston, USA, with the first call on November 8, 2014, and continuing to Frankfurt.
But in contrast to Qatar Airways Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo will focus solely on the US and Norwegian oil and gas industries.
Lufthansa Cargo does not see a business case for its freighter in the seafood exports:
-It is still not priced in a range where I would like to get active, says Alexander Kohnen, Lufthansa Cargo Director for the Nordic and Baltic countries..
