Nov 24, 2014 (newstodate): Although volumes are low, compared to Poland's capital airport, Katowice Airport is seeing cargo volumes growing in 2015.
The airport thus grew the cargo volumes by 58 percent, y-o-y, during this year's second quarter, to 4,016 tonnes.
And in the first half of this yer, the airport has seen volumes up by 63 percent, y-o-y, to 8,063 tonnes.
Air traffic at the airport is strongly dominated by WIZZ Air, Ryanair and charter operators that do not provide cargo uplift capacity, while traffic by legacy carrier including Lufthansa, SAS and LOT is provided with smaller regional jet aircraft with limited cargo space.
The bulk of the cargo at Katowice Airport is thus provided by ad-hoc cargo charter operations and integrator traffic by DHL Express, TNT, UPS and FedEX.
