Nov 18, 2014 (newstodate): Azerbaijan's Silk Way West Airlines has obtained rights to launch freighter services between Baku and New York.
The carrier can now offer both scheduled and charter freighter services between the two countries with a fleet comprising three Boeing 747-400F, two Boeing 747-8F, and two Boeing 767-300F aircraft.
Azerbaijan obtained Category 1 rating in the revision of FAA Flight Standards Service, published on March 7, 2014, allowing airlines registered in Azerbaijan to launch flights on new routes to North America on aircraft registered in the country.
Azerbaijan and USA have since then also negotiated an open skies agreement allowing for further development of the air services between the two countries.
