Nov 14, 2014 (newstodate): Estonian Air may see a vital part of its future in serving routes outside the small home market.
As of today, the carrier's strategy is focusing on developing direct air connections to and from Estonia.
Estonian Air is thus currently providing direct flights to business destinations in Europe including flights from Tallinn to Stockholm Arlanda and Bromma, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Brussels, Oslo, Moscow, Munich, St Petersburg, Kiev, Vilnius and Trondheim, as well as seasonal flights to leisure destinations.
The carrier has also built up contracts with tour operators Novatours and TEZ Tour for whom Estonian Air will operate flights to Turkey and Croatia in 2015.
But talking to Estonian media, the carrier's CCO and member of the board Indrek Randveer has aired new ambitions.
-We simply have to get outside of Estonia to make more money and profits, so we can survive in this competitive situation. In Estonia we will not grow as the population is as it is, said Mr Randveer.
Capitalizing on its advantage of low labor costs, Estonian Air is now searching for projects in and beyond Scandinavia.
One first example of this is the carrier's engagement in scheduled domestic flights in Sweden from Gallivara and Lycksele to Stockholm Arlanda, while an earlier project with Vxj Smaaland Airport in Sweden for flights between Vxj and Amsterdam starting from May 2014 was soon aborted due to low demand and shortage of financing by the Swedish partner.
