Nov 26, 2014 (newstodate): Quite remarkably, the British carrier Flybe has landed a contract with SAS for provision of flights on routes and frequencies from Arlanda, Stockholm, where SAS sees a need for smaller aircraft to service customer demand.
Under the six-year contract, Flybe will position four new ATR72-600 with SAS at Arlanda from next year, replacing SAS' use of Jet Time's four CRJ200 aircraft.
The first two ATR72-600 aircraft will be in place by October 2015, with the remaining two to follow by March 2016.
The scope of the agreement can be extended with an additional four aircraft to be brought into service as required.
The aircraft in SAS livery operate on routes including Stockholm-Visby, Stockholm-Kalmar and Stockholm-Turku.
The announcement comes shortly after the decision by Finnair and Flybe to abrogate their JV, flyBe Nordic, with Flybe to sell its 60 percent stake in Flybe Nordic to a potential new majority shareholder or to Finnair for the price of one euro.
