Nov 03, 2014 (newstodate): 2014 will probably not be another year of jubilation at Denmark's Billund Airport when cargo volumes are counted.
During this year's first 10 months, the airport has been handling a total of 52,930 tonnes of cargo, a decline by 0.3 percent, y-o-y.
While exports have been growing during the period, reaching 52,930 tonnes and up 12.9 percent, y-o-y, imports have been low at 19,591 tonnes and down 16.7 percent, y-o-y.
The performance in October did little to improve the over-all picture as imports were down 29.8 percent to 1,700 tonnes while exports were still up 7.7 percent to 3,541 tonnes.
The comparison between Oct 2013 and Oct 2014 is, however, tainted by the fact that in October 2013 DHL stopped its Boeing 757-200F rotation since April 6, 2010, between Leipzig and Billund, calling instead at Billund Airport only on the return flights from Orebro, in Sweden, to load export shipments on the flight back to Leipzig.
