Nov 04, 2014 (newstodate): This year, one day in November will mark a milestone in Azerbaijan's commercial aviation.
While the exact date has still not been released, Azerbaijan Airlines will take delivery in November 2014 of its first of two Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft ordered in February 2007 and delivered on a lease contract.
Azerbaijan Airlines, based in Baku, Azerbaijan, was thus the first CIS airline to order the Boeing 787.
According to plans, the second Boeing 787 aircraft will follow in December 2014.
On March 7, 2014, Azerbaijan obtained FAA's Category 1 rating allowing it to launch flights on new routes to North America on aircraft registered in the country.
Following on the uprating to Category 1, Azerbaijan and USA are also in talks over an open-skies air services agreement.
With the agreement in place, airlines from both countries would be free to launch air services between any points in each-others markets.
