Oct 13, 2014 (newstodate): The news stream around the project to set up new Boeing 747 flights between Northern Norway, Oslo, US and Asian destinations has again dried up.
In a phone talk with newstodate in late September, the driving force behind Viking International Airlines, John Kunkel said that the overhaul of the first two Boeing 747 aircraft to be registered with Viking International Airlines' Finnish subsidiary was progressing, and that the aircraft would put on display in the Norwegian market before the end of October.
At Lakselv Banak Airport, set to become a pivot in the cargo operations, a source within Avinor now confirms that the launch of flights has been postponed to January 2015, while negotiations over an area at the airport to be dedicated to the handling operations as well as construction of a cargo terminal are still going on between the parties.
At least one leading Norwegian freight forwarder specialized in the seafood logistics seems to have lost confidence in the project:
-To us, Viking International Airlines is not a serious project. So far, all communication with them has been stopped as we do not get pertinent information on schedules and destinations, says the forwarder (name & company known by newstodate).
