Oct 07, 2014 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport is quite satisfied with this year's growth in cargo volumes driven by the international traffic.
The international cargo volumes were up 27 percent y-o-y in September 2014, to 320 tonnes which is the highest volume noted so far at the airport.
This steep increase in cargo volumes is nearly outweighing the negative development in the postal volumes, now accounting for less than 20 percent compared to two-thirds before July 2012 when Post Sweden stopped using Jonkoping Airport as a "mini-hub".
The growth in the international cargo volumes is generated by TNT that is operating a Boeing 737-300F on the route from Brussels, time:matters operating an ATR 42-300 freighter from Karlsruhe, and Dan'X that brings in airfreight on both these services.
The airport now estimates that the total cargo volumes through the airport in 2014 will be roughly on a par with last year despite the general downturn in the Swedish economy and the loss of postal volumes.
In 2013, Jonkoping airport saw its total international cargo and mail volumes up by 10 percent, to a total of 3,190 tonnes.
