Oct 13, 2014 (newstodate): Slovenia's Ljubljana Jose Pucnik Airport is now firmly in German hands.
Following a tender process, the German company Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide emerged as the winner for purchasing 75.5 percent of the shares in the airport from the Slovenian state and the Slovenian Sovereign Holding, and the money involved in the transaction has now been transferred, closing the deal.
The new owner of the airport will face the challenges of building a new 31,200 sq m terminal designed to handling of 1,800 passengers per hour, replacing the existing terminal that has reached the ceiling of its capacity.
Further down the line in building up the new Aeropolis at Ljubljana Airport is construction of a new cargo terminal.
The ambition is to turn the airport into a gateway between W and S/SE Europe, including the Balkan region, by attracting at least one international air cargo company.
